~ All About the Journey ~

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.
Hope you are continuing to enjoy all the different cards from the DT using the new Expressions Plus word dies. The team has shown some really creative ways to use these word dies with your existing collection of dies. With 35 different word phrases, there is so much you can do with them in your own card making.

I have been showing you over the past several weeks how to combine word die phrases with a stamped sentiment. Check out my cards here, here, hereherehere and here.  I am continuing with this series today as well.

I needed a card for my good friend who is battling cancer. I send her cards regularly and today she had a good report from her doctor. So I wanted to make one that dealt with her journey. She has quite an amazing attitude and a fighting spirit.

So I decided to use the Journey Phrase and I thought the Bicycle in Grass dies would work well together. And I would combine that with an appropriate sentiment. So let's get started with some details on how I created my card.

Step 1: White Panel size: 3 7/8" x 4 5/8"
I stamped my sentiment in a teal ink. I taped off the word Journey since I was using the Expression Phrase die for that word. I lined it up with my stamp-a-ma-jig.
Then I masked the sentiment off and taped down the brick wall stencil. I used 3D embossing paste.
I like using this paste with stencils because it gives whatever you are stenciling some dimension.  Set this panel aside to dry.
Step 2: While the embossing paste was drying I cut the grass and place on the bottom of the panel. I decided not to use the grass that is part of the bicycle die. I wanted something that would extend across the image panel. I used the Spring grass die and cut it in a garden green cardstock.
Step 3: I die cut the bicycle in a pomegranate red cardstock. The birds are part of the die so I cut 2 in the medium-blue and adhered them over the red birds.
The journey phrase is cut 2x because I like the words to pop and putting two of them together gives nice dimension. I used a teal cardstock here.
And, last is my butterflies. They are cut in a medium blue-green cardstock and matching designer paper. I used the butterflies from the Fancy Pocket Plus and Angled Pocket dies.
Step 4: The embossing paste was dry enough to begin the card assembly. My layering panels are a medium blue-green cardstock. Size: 4 3/4" x 4". The card base is teal cardstock. Size: 5" x 4 1/4".
I attached the bicycle using Ranger multi-medium matte adhesive. Just dabbed it on in a few places and then placed it behind the grass.
The Journey Phrase and butterfly is attached with the same adhesive. Added a few small pearls to the butterfly body.
Well that completes my card for this week. I hope I have given you more inspiration on how to use a sentiment to complete a die cut word. See you next week.

Screen Divider Card + Tutorial

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Wednesday edition of the Blog.

Today for your viewing pleasure, I am featuring dies from both the May "this & that" release & the June "home sweet home" release. I have also created a screen divider card and I will give you all the details on how you can create one as well. You can use your CottageCutz dies in a fun and creative way with this style card.

Card Base: 5 1/2" x 11"
Decorated Panels: 2 5/8" x 4 1/4"

Step 1: Score 5 1/2" x 11" cardstock at 2 3/4", 5 1/2", and 8-1/4" in the horizontal position.

Step 2: To create the Screen Divider fold, fold in half at 5 1/2" score then fold each side back in the opposite direction on the scored lines.

Step 3: Unfold card and lay flat. Using a border punch, create a punched border along the top edge of the card. I used a Martha Stewart trellis punch. I started punching at the 5 1/2" center point and worked my way across the card.
Step 4: To create "legs" at the bottom of the screen you can either use a punch or a die. For my card I used a punch. I worked with half of the card at a time. Keeping the two left panels folded, slide the bottom of those two panels into the punch (only 2 layers at a time will work). Position the cardstock about one-third of the way into the punch and center side to side, then punch.

Step 5: The screen divider is ready for decorating.

I started my 1st panel by sponging in some clouds with a light blue ink using a cloud template.
Die-cut the pieces for this panel using the grass, trees & vines, build-a-house accessories, spring stamps and fancy pocket plus dies. Bike is cut in a coral cardstock, tree in gumball green and matching patterned paper, birdhouse in pool party.

The next panel I used the same light blue ink to sponge the panel and a medium green for the grassy area. The dies are from the same sets listed above.

The 3rd panel is using the same dies listed above plus the garden accessories & hello spring dies. I cut a stencil from the clouds & sun die and sponged in the sun in the upper corner. I also added clouds and a grassy area. I wanted some small butterflies so I used a punch for those.

On the last panel I used the spring bloom corner and the bicycle in grass  and the fancy pocket plus dies. I sponged the background in the light blue ink. My corner is cut in coral cardstock and the butterflies in a rich razzleberry cardstock.

I adhered the panels to the screen divider and to hold in place I used some light blue ribbon that matches the card base.

Here are some other close-up shots of the card panels.

And, that my friends is my card for this week. Thanks for sticking with me till the end of this post. I know it was a long one. Don't forget about our current challenge. This one is Greenery. Get more info here. So until next time......inky hugs.

~All About The Journey~

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Wednesday edition of the Blog.

Today for your viewing pleasure, I am featuring a new die set from the May "This and That" release. I have used the Bicycle in Grass die to create a graduation card. We had 3 high school graduations in our family this month plus 3 other of our friends' kids graduated.

This card I created for a young woman that we know through our church. I didn't want to create the typical grad card so I made something different an out of the graduation box. It makes me look at m dies in a different light when I am in that mode.

So let's get started with some details on exactly what I did here. Since I had already decided on the bicycle die, I looked through my patterned paper for something that would coordinate. Voila! I found this paper with bicycles on it and I liked the color scheme. So I was off and running (lol)!!!

Card Base: 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
Patterned Paper: 5 3/8" x 4 1/8"

Next, I cut my bicycle with a maraschino red cardstock. I used the buttons from the Fancy Pocket Plus die and cut them in a honey card stock. For added interest, I used the red cardstock and laced it through the button holes.

Decided to place the bicycle and grass in a circle die.  I used a cloud template to sponge in my background clouds with tumbled glass distress ink. It bumps the background up a notch.

sponging finished on circle die

I wanted a different sentiment on the front of the card. Not the usual graduation message. I saved that for the card inside. I found this sentiment stamp but it was too long for my size circle. So I pulled out my stamp positioner and made it a 2 liner.

When I use a cling mount stamp, I line it up first on grid paper and then use my clear block to pick it up. This way it's on the block straight.

Now it's time to mask off the part of the sentiment you don't want stamped. I used painters tape. Ink it up and stamp it on the imaging sheet.  I didn't remove the painters tape at this point.

I placed my bike and grass on the circle and then lined up the imaging sheet, with the inked side up. Once it's positioned where you want it, you remove the sheet and stamp the sentiment. Then just repeat this process for the 2nd line of stamping. I took photos of this step and then decided to do the cloud sponging.

Now that all the 2 line stamping and background sponging is done, I assembled my card. I added 2 hearts to the top left. These are also cut from the Fancy Pockets Plus dies.

I completed the inside of the card with the typical graduation sentiments. Cut the sentiment layer with the largest CottageCutz rectangle die. Then I cut another layer 1/4" larger in red cardstock.

Well, friends that's it for me for another week. Just a reminder that our 3rd Challenge is in full swing with a pocket theme. get info here. Until next time........inky hugs!!!
